Pre-tied or self-tie?

Self-tie gives a slightly imperfect shape that reads more authentic, and it stays put once tied. Pre-tied is faster and holds a consistent shape, which matters across a long event.

What colour bow tie for a wedding?

Black for formal black tie. For a groom at a Malaysian wedding, matching the bow tie to the wedding palette or the bride's colours is common and appropriate.

Does a bow tie need a wing collar?

No. A spread collar works well with a bow tie and is more versatile. Wing collars are reserved for the most formal black and white tie occasions.

How do I tie a self-tie bow tie?

It is tied the same way as a shoelace. Practise a few times before the event and expect the first two attempts to look wrong. Slightly asymmetric is correct.
