Secret Advice To Look Remarkable In Suits - The Welthe Guy

Hi Robert! Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m Robert Pauley III aka The WELTHĒ Guy. I’m a Men’s Style Expert, Custom Clothier, Published Photographer and Social Media Influencer. I am the creator of WELTHĒ Lifestyle – a lifestyle services brand.

Since I was a kid, I enjoyed the "art of dressing up" and have built a vast knowledge of men's style coupled with a natural ability of knowing what looks good on myself and others. I’ve grown a social media following by modeling my own clothing designs and sharing men's style and grooming tips.

Prior to taking the leap into entrepreneurship, I worked in Finance for 10 years and have lived in Brazil, China, Hong Kong, and Spain. In addition to reaching over 100K people on social media, I speak to high school and college students on the importance of your appearance to your success. I am also the Host of The My People Podcast.

I am a native New Yorker and I currently reside in Harlem, NY.

The name The WELTHĒ Guy came from me trying to figure out a name that would be appropriate for the way my clothing looked. I’ve been in business for almost 3 years now.

You look youthful and so great in suits. How do you maintain your body? Any tips on how to maintain your skin and also body?

I am naturally slim and toned. I try my best to stay away from fried foods and I drink plenty of water. I always make sure my skin is hydrated with moisturizer.

We love all of your styles and how you mix and match your outfit. Where did you get your fashion inspiration from?

My fashion inspiration came from television and movies. I would always look at what successful men were wearing on tv and would say to myself, one day, I’m going to look like them.

Why do you think men should care about how they look?

The answer is very simple. When you look good, you feel good and if you feel good, you perform well.

Is there any positive impact in your work-life/relationship after you start dressing up compared to before? or do you always dress like this from your teenage years?

Since I was a teenager, I always loved suits. I didn’t start dressing in suits every day until my 20s but wearing a suit has always gotten me compliments and more respect from people.

Who is your fashion icon or who do you look up to in men’s fashion?

That’s a good question. I don’t have a fashion icon, but I do look up to some of the originals like Giorgio Armani.

Do you always help your family or friends to dress up? And if your close friend is poorly dressed, would you advise him? Why?

My friends and family don’t really ask me for advice on dressing up. If I had a friend that was poorly dressed, I would advise him that if he dressed better, he would receive more opportunities in life.

What is your advice for beginners wearing suits?

Keep in mind the 3 F's--Fit, Fabric, and Functionality.

The 3 F's work hand in hand and one is not more important than the other. With suiting the way it fits your body is important. I would pay attention to how it fits your shoulders, chest, and mid-section.

For fabric, even if your suit is in a cheaper fabric, if it fits well, it will look more expensive. Also with fabric, I would go with suits that are all-season fabrics because you can wear them all year round despite the weather. All-season is also a good economic choice as you can get more wears out of the suit.

The last piece of advice I would give to beginners wearing suits is, don't dry-clean your suits more than 2-3 times a year, unless absolutely necessary. Dry cleaning really breaks down the fabric and shortens the life of your suit. You should take your suit off after wearing and hang on a door or in an open area to let it air out. Steaming your suit between wears will help to remove odors and relax the fabric.

Should they go for single-breasted or double-breasted?

Whether you choose a single or double-breasted suit style really depends on preference. I am partial to a double-breasted style. I am tall and slim so it accentuates my body nicely. This is not to say someone that's not tall and slim can't wear a double-breasted suit--they should opt for a jacket that allows more room in the midsection to pull it off nicely. You can't go wrong with a single-breasted style, it is the most popular and most versatile style--it can be dressed up or down and looks great both ways.

Can you suggest the best color that they should choose?

If you're buying a new suit, I suggest going with a Navy suit. A Navy suit is a good choice as it can be worn to work and can be dressed up or down depending on the event you're going to.

What are the types of suits a stylish gentleman should own?

  • A classic single-breasted navy suit - your everyday suit. It can be worn to work or events outside of work and can be paired with dark and bright colors
  • A double-breasted suit - for when you want to take your style up a notch
  • A cotton suit - perfect for spring and summer events and can be dressed down with sneakers
  • A tuxedo - every stylish man should own his own tuxedo for formal events

Since you have a few pairs of shoes from Zeve, mind sharing which one is your favorite by far? Why?

My favorite pair are the camouflage tassel loafer. I love wearing this show because it looks great with a suit as well as jeans. People always compliment me when I wear that pair.

Last but not least, do you have any tips for men to be more confident?

My tip for more confidence is, when your clothes fit you well, you will feel better about yourself.
